CAREERS AT WAIKATO RUGBY

Board Member Positions 


Waikato Rugby is the organisation responsible for administering and delivering the game of rugby in the Waikato Region. Our purpose is to provide opportunities for anyone and everyone to belong, to participate and to be successful through rugby across the Waikato and its communities.

Roles Available

We invite applications for an Independent Board Member (two positions – one 3 year term, one 2 year term), a Club Board Member and a Nominated Board Member.

Applications for the Club Board Member position require a supporting letter from a club affiliated to the Waikato Rugby.

The incumbents who intend to seek reappointment are Independent (Howie King) and Club (Blair Currie).

There is one independent position vacant due to the resignation of Amy Marfell when she was appointed as CE (two year term).  There is also a vacant Nominated Board Member position due to the resignation of Joe Sprangers.


Skills/Competencies Required

  • A governance and strategic skillset monitoring all aspects of the organisation, while taking into account the interests of the relevant stakeholders.
  • Candidates who compliment and strengthen the expertise of the Waikato Rugby Board specifically commercial governance, legal expertise, sport and active recreation experience and senior management.
  • The ability to think and act independently of any stakeholder or stakeholders in rugby in the Waikato, and in the best interests of rugby across the entire region.
  • Board diversification, primarily in terms of idea & thought, but also in terms of gender, and/or ethnicity (particularly Maori or Pasifika), to ensure it is representative of both the Waikato and its rugby community. 


Commitment required

Six board meetings a year and approximately 10 hours per month

Attendance at Club and representative rugby games as required
