Waikato Club Rugby Preview 9 April 2022


The Club Rugby season begins this weekend in the Waikato with Lone Star Division 1 and Gallagher Women’s Premiership divisions to get the 2022 season underway. 

 

Gallagher Women’s Premiership Kickoff 1pm 

Reigning Premiership champions, Hamilton Old Boys Huskiez, defense of the Gallagher Cup begins this weekend when they host semi-finalists Otorohanga at Willoughby Park. Other match-ups have competition newcomers Fraser Tech hosting Championship winners Kihikihi at Waikato Steel Fabricators Park. Championship runners up, Hamilton Marist, hosts Putururu at Marist Park in a rematch of last season's semi-final that was played at the same venue. Southern United welcome Taupiri to Tokoroa for their clash and Premiership runners up, Melville, travel across town to face University at Waikato University.

Lone Star Rototuna Division 1 Kickoff 2.45pm 

Division 1 first round kicks off this weekend, with reigning champs, Taupri, traveling to Ohaupo to begin their defense of the Mooloo Shield. Mooloo Shield semi-finalist, Frankton, hosts Suburbs at Swarbrick Park. Championship semi-finalists Leamington and Hinuera go head to head at Leamington Park. Pirongia travel south to Tokoroa to take on Southern United and the finally Te Rapa host Putaruru in a rematch of one of the semi-finals from last season at the same venue.
